Our Efforts in Abortion Recovery

Abortion Recovery InterNational is an advocate for abortion recovery efforts in the US and around the world.  With millions of men and women affected by abortion, it is our goal to encourage and provide healing opportunities to those that are hurting.

In our culture, there's a lot of discussion about women's rights, but for many a "pro-choice" became a "poor-choice"!  The risks of abortion are largely ignored.

What Society Doesn't Know...

  • 64% of American women who have had abortions felt pressured by others
  • Even though the majority felt rushed, 67% received no counseling; 79% were not told about alternatives
  • Abortion is often a woman’s last choice, but an abuser's first choice
  • America's teens are at risk for health injury and suicide.
  • Many who pushed family or friends to abort were also deceived – by experts, authorities, even pastors – about fetal development, alternatives and risks.
  • The overall death rate of women rises 3.5 times after an abortion.
  • Suicide rates are 6-7 times higher after an abortion.
  • 65% report symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder they attribute to their abortions.

Abortion Recovery InterNational was established to assist in the field of abortion recovery, to aid those hurting and to bring to society an awareness of the devastation that abortion was having on families on an international basis.  Here's a quick glimpse of our goals for the organization and what we're doing:

Abortion Statistics in U.S.A.

Nearly half of all pregnancies to American women are unintended; four in 10 of these end in abortion.

About half of American women have experienced an unintended pregnancy, and at current rates more than one-third (35%) will have had an abortion by age 45.

Overall unintended pregnancy rates have stagnated over the past decade, yet unintended pregnancy increased by 29% among poor women while decreasing 20% among higher-income women.

In 2005, 1.21 million abortions were performed, down from 1.31 million abortions in 2000.

Nine in 10 abortions occur in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.

A broad cross section of U.S. women have abortions:
56% of women having abortions are in their 20s;
61% have one or more children;
67% have never married;
57% are economically disadvantaged;
88% live in a metropolitan area; and
78% report a religious affiliation.

For EVERY woman who experiences an abortion, there is a man and family associated.

Each abortion, through a ripple effect, may touch the hearts of 40-50 people in a lifetime.

ARIN, Inc. and our affiliates encourage individuals and families affected by reproductive loss to have completed a recovery program PRIOR to
involving themselves in any type of speaking, leadership, legal, research or activism opportunity. See our Principles of Care for further information!
